Opening Ceremony of Tate’s Cairn weather radar
12 October 2015
The project team for the reconstruction of the Observatory’s weather radar structure at Tate’s Cairn Radar Station recently celebrated its opening on 8 October 2015. The opening ceremony was officiated by The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. Gregory So, and the Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr. Shun Chi-ming.
WCWP was tasked with upgrading the radar, including the dome enclosure and ancillary facilities, from the previous 20-year old Doppler radar as part of a $14m renovation. A new 1-storey office was constructed to house the new weather radar with the radome installed on the rooftop.
A tight schedule and complex building services were some of the challenges faced by the project team.
